“I try to make my songs as exact as I can. Sometimes I have the feeling that I am painting with an eyelash.” Leonard Cohen

I try to make my songs as exact as I can. Sometimes I have the feeling that I am painting with an eyelash. I think of myself as a journalist and my job is to report the news. I write the stories I see around me. I do not try to analyze society nor penetrate some geopolitical vision. But I react to things like everyone else and my songs are an expression of my reactions.quotedown2

The full article that is linked above is wonderful. Good quotes have been lifted from this material from time to time, but it is fascinating to read this piece in its entirety. Especially interesting is exactly how LC views and defines ‘love’ as drawn from the “Ten New Songs” album.
As a mother of two sons, I can appreciate how LC’s children, Adam and Lorca, viewed the future back in 2001—what was important to them. The two main things were/are “earning a living and finding a lover.” But really, isn’t that the same for every generation? Okay, in my time it was ‘earning a living and finding a husband!’
