Leonard Cohen: The Spirit of Radio

cvr2Leonard Cohen: The Spirit of Radio, a compilation on the Parallel Lines label, due to be released Oct 6, 2014, was first posted here August 29, 2014, but at that time, as noted, the only list of the tracks that included the broadcasts from which each was drawn was confusingly formatted. Happily Dominique BOILE has stepped up to provide the detailed list of contents for each CD.

Dominique also points out that the tracklists of the CDs in this set are identical to the tracklists of these three previously published bootlegs:

  1. Leonard Cohen Back In The Motherland: The 1988 Toronto Broadcast1
  2. Leonard Cohen Angels At My Shoulder: Live 1993
  3. Leonard Cohen The Classic Interviews

Titled “With Leonard and Mike at Sea,” this clip from With Mike On The Sea, a Belgium talk show hosted by Mike Verdrengh, was originally broadcast February 16, 1988. While the now-familiar routine of pseudo-newscasting, dance gyrations, and the classic double-arm wrestling motif renders “First We Take Manhattan” the farcical delight we’ve come to expect, this set also includes a rather disappointingly straightforward lip-sync presentation of “Take This Waltz” by Cohen and the same two women.
