Moving Signs Of Leonard Cohen: 2012 Gothenburg Concert Poster On Tram

lctramWhen Roman Gavrilin aka Hermitage Prisoner submitted this photo, he offered this personal recommendation:

I may be wrong, but this is one of the coolest non-LC images I’ve seen this week

I don’t think he’s wrong..

The sign on the tram advertises the August 31, 2012 Leonard Cohen concert in that city. The photo was taken in Gothenburg, Sweden and posted on Instagram by vijinho. Originally posted August 15, 2012 at DrHGuy.com, a predecessor of Cohencentric

“[Leonard Cohen] is not your buddy; he’s your man” 2012 Toronto Review

With obvious similarities, porkpie hats and fedoras fall into the same genus. Nevertheless, they’re worlds apart. While the former exudes a certain gallant roguishness (see Popeye Doyle), the latter, if worn in earnest (i.e., not you, Joey Jeremiah), radiates class and sophistication (see Leonard Cohen). Earlier this year, Cohen turned 78 years old. He is not your buddy; he’s your man. He exists in rarefied air, and he looks damn natural in a gentleman’s hat.quotedown2

Joys Of The Leonard Cohen Soundcheck: Hearing La Manic Before It’s Been Performed In Concert

Attending Leonard Cohen soundcheck can be enlightening, instructive, and even inspiring, but most of all, it’s fun. The Joys Of The Leonard Cohen Soundcheck is a collection of individual instances that manifest this principle.

Leslie Py Wener writes about the Nov 1, 2012 Leonard Cohen Austin soundcheck, when she and Arlene Dick were the only civilians in the audience:

It is something I will never forget in my life. Seeing Leonard play alone on stage and then later with the band was always a dream of mine. Leonard played La Manic 3 times practicing, and we were pinching ourselves with excitement as we had never heard it before. The perks of a ride to and from the venue, dinner backstage and a goodie bag was unexpected. I feel so blessed for this.

For another example of hearing a new song at soundcheck before it is ever presented to an audience, see Joys Of The Leonard Cohen Soundcheck: #1. Hearing A New Leonard Cohen Song – Darkness

A Visit From St. Leonard

A Visit From St. Leonard …. otherwise known as Leonard Cohen, whose visit I was looking forward to so much more than that of the other guy whose last name begins with the letter “C”. Revered Canadian poet and singer Leonard Cohen, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, is blessed with a marvelous baritone voice and a large repertoire of rather bleak songs that combine the religious and the sexual. Backed by a stellar group of musicians and backup singers, he entertained his London fans for over three hours with songs from recent albums, and old favourites like “Chelsea Hotel”, “Suzanne”, “Hallelujah” and “Bird on the Wire” – it was a Leonard lovefest all around.

From A Visit From St. Leonard, a report on the Dec 11, 2012 London, Ontario Leonard Cohen Concert posted Dec 13, 2012 at Forest City Fashionista. The post also contains several photos.

Signs Of Leonard Cohen: 2012 Dublin Concert Sweetest Little Song Banner

dublinsignFor many of us, the September 11, 12, 14 & 15, 2012 Dublin concerts are forever associated with the huge banners that flanked the stage. I am especially fond of the one displayed atop this post bearing the lines from Cohen’s poem, “The Sweetest Little Song:”

“You go your way,
I’ll go your way too”
