Leonard Cohen Newsletter #2 – Jan 19, 1985: TV & Press Coverage, Tour Dates, Book Of Mercy Published, Night Magic Being Written

Leonard Cohen Information Service Newsletter #2

Keep in mind that these monthly newsletters represented an important improvement in the dissemination of information about Leonard Cohen. Note the excitement apparent in the list of ten or so periodicals in which articles about Cohen had already appeared or were likely to appear in the near future. In 1985, there were no books about Leonard Cohen available in Germany (where the newsletter originated), leaving the editors to suggest purchasing a volume published in Canada. In 2014, at least eight books on Leonard Cohen are anticipated.

Ancient Texts From The Tower Of Song: Leonard Cohen Information Service Newsletter #1 – Dec 16, 1984

In an archaeological dig at his family home, James Finch unearthed his own copy of the first English language Leonard Cohen Information Service Newsletter (along with other treasures likely to show up on this site).

The first Newsletters were actually issued in German with three German Cohen fans, Martin Rupps, Gerhard Schinzel and Michael Lohse, as editors. Jim Devlin distributed an English translation of the German Newsletter until May 10, 1989 when the German version was discontinued. Devlin continued to issue quarterly Newsletters until December 1994.
