The One Year And Two Day Anniversary Of The Leonard Cohen Beacon Show
Being on the road the past few days has misaligned my timetables to the point that this post, scheduled for the anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s first USA concert after a 15 year gap between performances in this country, is finally being published two days after the the planned date – the anniversary of the Leonard Cohen Beacon Theatre Concert.
Happily, a download of the bootleg of 12 of the songs from the setlist is currently available.
And – yes, it is the bootleg with the cover art that features a fake marquee identifying not only Leonard Cohen but also your humble Cohencentric host, DrHGuy.
Immediately below is a screenshot that first appeared on the morning of the concert at the top of the Heck Of A Guy post, New York Tonight – Leonard Cohen & DrHGuy Appearing Together For The First Time:
In addition to its historical (and personal) significance, the Beacon Theatre Concert is generally accorded to be one of the most impressive shows of the 2008-2009 World Tour.
It also makes a great companion piece to The Other Leonard Cohen Album
Leonard Cohen Beacon Theatre Concert (2/19/2009) Track List
- Dance Me To The End Of Love
- The Future
- Chelsea Hotel No. 2
- Tower Of Song
- The Partisan
- A Thousand Kisses Deep
- Take This Waltz [9:20]
- So Long, Marianne
- First We Take Manhattan
The files are MP3s with a sample rate of 192 kbps recorded from a FM broadcast. They are downloaded as individual files directly from the site (rather than through a service such as RapidShare) and require no codes or extraction (i.e., the files are MP3s, not zip or rar). The files are not DRM-protected; consequently, they should play without problems in iPods and most other MP3 players. They can also be burned onto a CD.
This site, however, keeps downloads available for a limited time only. The downloads were working when I checked just prior to publishing this post. I have no way of knowing how much longer this will be be case.
The songs listed above from this concert can be found at the Big O Audio Archive.
