Leonard Cohen’s Immutable Law of Business #3: There’s nothing you can do behind your desk that can’t be more effectively accomplished with a beautiful, long-haired, chain-smoking woman lying naked next to you in bed.

I’ve previously posted both Leonard Cohen’s Seven Immutable Laws of Business1 (the article from which Law #3 is drawn) and the above photo2 but only today realized  how serendipitously they fit together.

That’s Michaela Crispin on the bed. They were not lovers. She visited Cohen in 1979 on Hydra while a German journalist was interviewing him. Never one to waste an occasion, the consummate host suggested she take off her top for the photo. She did and later found it plastered across the German press. She tried for years to sue the publishers. Michaela has serious mental issues and became homeless, surviving on Hydra by breaking into houses and squatting in them – sometimes for years.
