Engravings On Unwritten Snow / Five
For Leonard Cohen

In Parc du Portugal
The horses came the day after you left
They sniffed your burned song
And stamped on that elusive sadness
You always left behind
Below the mindless snow
The horses took shelter from the wrath of God
Inside your beloved gazebo
Inside your mountain of doubt.
In Parc du Portugal
The horses came the day after you left
They sniffed the coolness of your absence
They neared the farcical beauty
Definitive beauty
Of the frozen sun
Sliding down on shiny sameness
Inside your secret glaciarium
In Parc du Portugal,
THE DAY AFTER YOU LEFT
