After viewing the recently posted Leonard Cohen Performs Diamonds In The Mine, Dedicated To “The Next President Of The United States – If You Can Tell The Difference” Bonn 1980, Maarten Massa forwards as followup, Leonard’s performance of Diamonds In The Mine the following night (Nov 5 1980) in Eppelheim – only now the dedication is to “the new President of the United States” Ronald Reagan. The intro and Leonard’s explanation of the restart of the song are gems:
I’d like to dedicate this next song to the new president of the United States. We wish him well. He’s got a hard job. He’s got to take care of all of us. [begins singing] ‘I think I told you all about it'[tops singing] Wait a second. That’s the wrong song for him. Not so much the wrong song, its the wrong key. I have to collect my thoughts, I have to aim my mind, what’s left of it, towards that gleaming dome in Washington.
