Video: Leonard Cohen Performs “Everybody Knows” Featuring John Bilezikjian On The Oud At Roskilde 1988

88everybodyIn addition to a solid performance of “Everybody Knows,” this video also offers views of a frenzied, shouting, flag-waving audience and a precursor to one of Leonard Cohen’s signature moves during the 2008-2013 tours – kneeling beside Javier Mas to establish face to face contact as he sings and Mas plays.

Update: On July 2, 1988, Leonard Cohen appeared  at the 1988 Roskilde Festival, held south of Roskilde, Denmark. Six of those songs were broadcast on TV2 Denmark. All six are now available online:

1. Dance Me To The End Of Love
2. Everybody Knows
3. First We Take Manhattan
4. Take This Waltz
5. Hallelujah
6. Suzanne

Video: Leonard Cohen’s Powerful Performance Of “First We Take Manhattan” At Roskilde 1988

roskideNotwithstanding the color distortion, this video is fascinating, not only because of the impressive performance by Leonard Cohen and backup singers Perla Batalla and Julie Christensen, but also due to the exuberant, banner-waving audience  Worthy of special note is Cohen’s booming, sardonic laughter at 4:37.

Leonard Cohen: The Spirit of Radio

cvr2Leonard Cohen: The Spirit of Radio, a compilation on the Parallel Lines label, due to be released Oct 6, 2014, was first posted here August 29, 2014, but at that time, as noted, the only list of the tracks that included the broadcasts from which each was drawn was confusingly formatted. Happily Dominique BOILE has stepped up to provide the detailed list of contents for each CD.

Dominique also points out that the tracklists of the CDs in this set are identical to the tracklists of these three previously published bootlegs:

  1. Leonard Cohen Back In The Motherland: The 1988 Toronto Broadcast1
  2. Leonard Cohen Angels At My Shoulder: Live 1993
  3. Leonard Cohen The Classic Interviews
