Prelude Nr.1 to Leonard Cohen’s 80th Birthday Celebrations

STRAIGHT FROM THE PALLID HORSE’S MOUTH (never before revealed):

“It was back then, at the Chelsea Hotel. Ecstasy blown curtains, sweaty death performing live in the Sky. The dark stairways shivering in bloody accords, the walls echoing unborn melodies. That night, back then, the scent of hidden love suddenly filled every inch of Heaven, Purgatory and Hell, even the lobby of the hotel.” And only then, The Pallid Horse smiled, once again.

Leonardo Da Vinci strongly believed that everything is connected. Georges Dor is of Romanian origin. Stefan and I are also Romanian. “Dor” means in Romanian, “longing.”

The evening of 29 October,  2012, Leonard Cohen, the troubadour of supreme longing, sang La Manic for the first time in Montreal, his hometown, the place we also call now our home. Stefan and I were present in the audience at Centre Bell.

“La Manic,” the video, is our love letter to Leonard Cohen and George Dor, to the anonymous construction worker from Manic, longing for his lover and to you Allan, our deeply superficial friend, relentlessly turning over the infinite mystery of the conjuring Cohenesque universe. Thank you for this.

The Story of Leonard Cohen’s Bucharest Miracle

Leonard Cohen Performs A Miracle In Bucharest!
By Oana Maria Cajal

My mother, Balcica M., is now 84 years old. She lives in Bucharest, Romania. In the past few years she has been painfully sad, trying to adjust to my father’s absence from this world. They were together for 50 + years. They were One. A very long time ago, at the age of 14, my mother published her first volume of poetry. Since then, no poems! Until this Christmas, when she happened to listen to Leonard Cohen recitation of “A Thousand Kisses Deep”. After listening to him, my mother quietly sat at her winter blooming window and, in one breath, she wrote a poem! She eagerly phoned me and, from across the ocean, overwhelmed by emotion, said: “I am alive again!” Soon Balcica M. will be finishing her new volume of poems, to be published in spring. After 70 years! Yes, Leonard Cohen is right! Poetry is proof of life! Thank you infinitely LC, for inspiring my extraordinary mother to write again, to be alive again!

This is her miracle poem, in my English translation. The words are inscribed, by Romanian artist Jorj Paduraru, on thin paper made of fish netting, dried jacaranda leaves and ashes of Life…

For Leonard Cohen
by Balcica M.

Listening to you
I descend inside your heart
Slowly caressing its heartbeats
You are so alive!
I feel my soul touching yours
Let me find its gold, that gold
That brings our being into light
And takes it to infinity
Let me gather that longing
From your divine voice
I am so close to your magic nearness
You are not singer
You are not poet
You are that miracle
Called You.

We gather up our hearts and go,
A Thousand Kisses Deep
